The Block 2022 Week 10 – Guest Bedroom Reveals Recap

After last week’s Hell Week Scotty gave the blockheads a breather by asking them to complete a Guest Bedroom. Although it seemed like a breeze there was one particular house who were stressed and found in the red with their budgets. Although the main concern was originally getting an audit complete to ensure all teams were playing fairly, which was the case, it brought up issues of the Houses spending more than what they should have.

The Block 2022 Week 10 – Tom and Sarah-Jane (House 1)

Tom and Sarah-Jane had no tradesmen helping them out this week, showing how they always seem to budget so well completing their rooms. Scotty had headed over to House 1 to let them know one house had been cut off with their money, did this upset Sarah-Jane? Well, she felt terrible for the team but was glad to hear there was one less house to worry about this week. During the build of their room, there were a lot of flat packs which Tom was not very impressed with but it had to be done. Overall, House 1 was ready to rumble when Scotty screamed ‘tools down’.

House 1 built their nursery home at the front of their first house. The twist to Tom and Sarah-Jane’s room was that the wallpaper was placed on the ceiling rather than the walls as everyone else would generally go with. Did the judges love it as much as Sarah-Jane did? Well, they definitely did and Neil was the first to comment ‘look at that ceiling’ while Darryn agreed by saying ‘so cute.’ Shayna also was very impressed with House 1 and added that ‘nothing says a family room when there’s a nursery.’

Overall, all three judges agreed that the room only got cuter and cuter with the attention to detail as well as the functionality of the nursery room having the capacity to be changed into a twin, teen or adult room if need be. Shayna also added that House 1 always makes her smile. As always House 1 had a successful room reveal for the judges.

The Block 2022 Week 10 – Rachael & Ryan (House 2)

House 2, Rachael and Ryan, had difficulties budgeting at the very beginning of The Block, however, have come a long way and are doing ok, although they were a little tight on the budget this week. Scotty again reminded them to be careful when spending and notified them that one particular house was found in the red and had overdone it. Similarly to House 1, Rachael and Ryan also had a flat-pack hell week with their choice of furniture.

House 2 had their kids bedroom located at the front of the old house. They had many consultations with their designers and their kids. Considering this room was the second biggest room in the house did they manage to get it right? Shayna walked in screaming ‘oh wow this is phenomenal’ she absolutely loved the choice of wallpaper that Rachael had designed herself personally. Rachael was choked up with the choice of having her children’s artwork on display. Neel couldn’t agree more and said that was a beautiful kids’ bedroom and the fact House 2 had playdough brought him back to his childhood, which was a thumbs up. Shayna had however criticised that there could have been a throw complimenting the colour of the wardrobe as the wardrobe’s colour choice was left on its own.

Overall, all three judges agreed that this room was not only kid-friendly but also budget-friendly. Lots of love and warmth in their kids’ room and all the love they had for their kids was really felt as soon as the judges walked in. A very magical room was presented by House 2 and it was ‘mighty impressive’ as Darryn added.

The Block 2022 Week 10 – Ankur & Sharon (House 3)

Ankur and Sharon started the week off not so pleasant, as they were the house that was cut off as their Suncorp cards were cancelled. Any decisions on money spent had to go through Scotty, which meant House 3 had to get everything done on their own. Scotty was immensely disappointed with Ankur, especially at the fact that he was an accountant – spending without budgeting seemed odd for an accountant in his opinion. Sharon left in tears and Ankurs feeling that Scotty was personally attacking him about his career left House 3 edgy.

Although it was a roller coaster week for House 3, the end result wasn’t so bad. Considering they had to knuckle down to finalise the completion of their kids’ room they got it done. Darryn did notice that the door wasn’t painted but was probably the best-painted room they have ever presented which was a positive. He also loved that the room was very neutral and wasn’t biased for only a girl or boy. All three judges agreed that the room was very pretty although it didn’t seem to flow through with the rest of their rooms. Shayna was in awe of the shelf, especially the access for the kids to pick up their toys or books. Neel also agreed that this room was noticeably different to the rest of the house as this room was beautifully executed and classic compared to the rest of the rooms. Do we think this would let House 3 down? Not quite, but they still did well considering the stress they had earlier in the week.

All three judges have agreed that this by far was the most well-executed room Ankur and Sharon had presented, well done House 3.

The Block 2022 Week 10 – Dylan & Jenny (House 4)

House 4, Dylan and Jenny had a skeleton crew similar to house 1. House 4 agreed that they would rather not have their tradies on board if they couldn’t afford to pay them, which Scotty would have been proud to hear considering the decisions he had to make this week.

Dylan and Jenny’s kids’ room was located at the front of the existing house opposite the master bedroom. Jenny was super impressed with the conclusion of their kids’ bedroom and was confident they had executed the kids’ room very well. Did the judges agree?

Shayna felt like it was a wonderland and adored the choice of wallpaper that Jenny and Dylan had designed themselves. Darryn was in awe and felt that the choice of colour pallets was very sophisticated as well as the décor was fabulous. Neel screamed ‘wow, wow, wow, wow.’ All three judges were impressed with the kids’ room and each wanted to take something with them. Was this the sign of a winning week? It sure was! Jenny and Dylan nailed it. Well done to house 4 and their success in winning again this week.

The Block 2022 Week 10 – Omar & Oz (House 5)

House 5, Omar and Oz had a twist this week and eliminated the idea of presenting a kids’ room but instead a small cosy living area. The boys were impressed with their decision and were so confident that they wanted to call Scotty and ask him to yell out ‘tools down’ earlier than expected.

The boys situated their second living room next to their main bathroom. Were the judges impressed with their choice of presenting another living area? Unfortunately, they were not. Having only 4 bedrooms available in their house while all other houses had 5 could let them down at auction time. At first, Shayna thought the TV was too close to the sofa, yet when she sat down she noticed it wasn’t too bad. The biggest letdown for House 5, however, was that when anyone comes to visit friends or family that live in Gisborne, they generally stay the night,  eliminating the advantage of having that extra space for guests didn’t work to their advantage. They believed that this room was a waste of space and wouldn’t be used. Having the cabinetry took away a lot of space and meant the buyer wouldn’t be able to turn this room into a kids’ or adult room if they wanted to. Also, the choice of décor wasn’t the right fit and confused all three judges. Having a bunny and video games baffles all three judges and felt they couldn’t figure out what this room was supposed to be.

Unfortunately, the boys haven’t received the best results from the judges. Better luck next week, bathroom kings.
