The Block 2022 Week 9 Hell Week – Hallway & Laundry Reveals Recap
This week no house had finished their hallway, laundry and mudroom reveal – do we blame that on one of the coldest and wettest weeks on record? Considering no rooms were finished, all 5 houses were going to get judged on how well the rooms transformed from old to new rather than the result overall. So, who did what?
The Block 2022 Week 9 – Tom and Sarah-Jane (House 1)
Tom and Sarah-Jane usually have everything under control – do you think Hell Week scared them? Not only did they have to ensure their hallway, mud room, breezeway and landscape were completed in time, but they also had the biggest build to complete.
Shaynna walked in smiling ‘I like their style’, whilst feeling the wallpaper down the breezeway. Darren loved that the team gave the breezeway some purpose, by including the fireplace.
Darren had an issue with the choice of a rug placement, suggesting that two round rugs would have worked better. All three judges loved the long runner in the hallway alongside the choice of artwork which made the hallway look like an art gallery.
The choice of brick wear in the mud way as well as their choice of floor tiles was a great choice. The luxury brass mesh look was a great choice. Overall, the laundry was not only beautiful to look at but beautifully functional.
House 1 delivered heaven this Hell Week, considering minimal time to put it all together and missed out on the win by ½ a point.
The Block 2022 Week 9 – Rachael & Ryan (House 2)
Racheal and Ryan from House 2 felt at ease this week until Friday hit and their tiler became unwell. Lucky for House 2 Scotty’s tilers were able to help. Considering the stressful end to the week, this was the only hell House 2 faced on Friday.
Shaynna walked in saying ‘wow’, but there were a few doors that needed attention. Anne Blatmen’s artwork was a great choice but pairing it with other artwork didn’t work out well. Shaynna did comment however that she loved the seating arrangement, with baskets that allowed shoes to be thrown in and loved the old and new look they gave.
Continuing walking into the hallway Shaynna adored the skylight and the idea of the linen cupboard which showed good functionality from House 2. This entrance area was beautiful – the artwork opposite the second doorway was stunning and all three judges agreed.
Darren loved the house and agreed that it looked like heaven. Neil added that Ryan and Rachael were off to a shaky start, but he can see they are gaining their confidence and showing us how it’s done. Considering there was a lot that was not complete overall the home was phenomenal.
The laundry benchtop was perfect, with its rustic but contemporary look. Shaynna loved all the appliances used in the mud room and believed that their home was coming together.
The Block 2022 Week 9 – Ankur & Sharon (House 3)
House 3, Ankur and Sharon had to take a lot to take into account this week, including their spending and ensuring the rooms were completely finished. Sharon wasn’t impressed with Scotty, the chippy, whose idea was to ensure the room was finished on time.
The drama continued when extra tiles were ordered by Scotty when they were not needed last week. Scotty explained that these tiles were getting returned and were only purchased in case they were needed. Sharon wasn’t impressed that decisions were being made without her consent. It seems that the builders weren’t happy working with Ankur and Sharon, as much as Ankur and Sharon were not happy with their builders. And the drama didn’t end here…
Last week, Keith stayed back to help House 3 bring down the scaffold as he was the only one that was licenced to do so. The gossip leaked that house 3 was blaming Keith for slowing them down. Keith confronted Ankur and Sharon who denied what they believed was taken out of context, Keith was not impressed. But what did the judges think?
Neil and Darren agreed the doors looked beautiful. Neil liked the choice of pendant on the entrance. Moving up into the hallway, Shaynna wasn’t impressed – ‘this is horrible.’ Neil silently applauded House 3 for getting their mojo back and didn’t mind the choice of lamps, however, Shaynna disagreed. Darren believed the choice of colours might not be working well and all three judges agreed to change the choice of paint colour to elevate the space.
The mudroom was loved by all three judges, especially the choice of tiles as they work well with all the other wet rooms. Darren believes it is a great space and they have nailed their mud room. Shaynna found the powder room and loved it! As Shaynna said, ‘the hallway is a dog’s breakfast, but the laundry is a dog’s paradise!’
Considering Shaynna wasn’t very impressed with the entrance Ankur and Sharon saved themselves by changing the look of their laundry, mudroom and powder room.
The Block 2022 Week 8 – Rachel & Ryan Hall, Laundry & Mud Room
The Block 2022 Week 9 – Dylan & Jenny (House 4)
Jenny and Dylan were fed up and just wanted to go home with all the chaos that came with Hell Week. Dan, the foreman, wasn’t impressed with House 4 as their site was a mess, with plaster laying around uncovered and there was a shortage to find it to begin with.
Jenny and Dylan explained to Dan that there was a storm the night before which had blown the wrapping off, while Dan disagreed explaining it obviously wasn’t wrapped well enough. Both Dylan and Jenny stormed off from Dan’s conversation and had Jenny in tears, who was fed up with so little help provided for them due to their budget and not being able to have enough builders on site to help them. A dose of tough love from Dan this week for house 4.
Darren and Shaynna walked in exclaiming ‘wow!’. Darren added that he loved how crisp the hallway looked and the choice of the pendant lights and the rug and artwork were gorgeous. The 40-meter hallway was completed perfectly. Shaynna adored the artwork by Angie and enjoyed the chairs placed and believed she would read a book and sip on her coffee peacefully. Neil added it was sophisticated and presented very well.
The mud room tiles were lovely. The colour scheme is consistent with the laundry and was coherent and fabulous. Stage green cabinetry was perfection. All three judges agreed that this space will appeal to a very broad demographic. They were saddened that House 4 would have definitely received a solid 10 this week if they had completely finished, however they still came out on top as our winners with 27 points.
The Block 2022 Week 9 – Omar & Oz (House 5)
Omar and Oz from House 5 had an extremely problematic week this week, and the mud was not the only issue for the boys. Their tiler didn’t have the correct certificate of currency for their work cover to be on-site, which meant time was running out for them to complete their room reveal. Although it seemed to be a stressful week, they were admitting not only will they be the ‘bathroom kings’ but also ‘The Block kings’ this week. Foreman Dan was angry with the boys as the entire house wasn’t wrapped.
Dan and Shaynna loved the hallway and showed the imposing presence and beautiful details on the frameworks. Neil added that he loved the window it almost looked like a wall of glass, but the skirting transition wasn’t the best choice.
All three judges loved the powder room agreeing it was beautiful and the choice of tiles outstanding. Shaynna agreed with how beautiful the timber ceiling was throughout the hallway. The concern again was the amount of money that was spent and how they were affording this.
Shaynna was excited to see how the ‘bathroom kings’ delivered their bathroom and laundry. To her surprise, it was nowhere near finished, however, they all agreed that it will be a very modern lux aesthetic once finished. Unfortunately, the bathroom kings were not the bathroom kings this week. Overall, the boys have something exceptional happening here. Better luck next week Omar and Oz, they don’t call it Hell Week for no reason.
