The Block 2022 Week 8 Living & Dining Room Reveals Recap

We couldn’t get enough of the living and dining room reveals on The Block this week! Check out our recap below for all the details.

The Block 2022 Week 8 – Tom and Sarah-Jane (House 1)

Tom was nervous this week and was sure that he was not going to have enough time to finish the living and dining room reveal as they hadn’t started until Wednesday. As Sarah-Jane described he was ‘a Debbie Downer’ all week, but we can understand Tom’s stress!

House 1 had a visit from Scotty and Shelly, who told them that considering they had the largest room on the block they needed a larger dining table rather than a three-seater.

Sarah-Jane was quick to agree that she needed to change her dining setup before the judges saw the result. Neale walked in screaming ‘magnificent’ while Shaynna agreed and commented on the gorgeous view.

Although the first expression of their living and dining had positive vibes, this instantly changed when Darren noticed the ceilings were not painted, along with the cables around the TV area being extremely visible and making the room look extremely messy.

Overall, the judges did agree that the view of the living and dining was phenomenal, but this didn’t give the judges that cohesion feeling they have had before. The judges didn’t feel their personality, heart, and soul were there this time round.

Neale and Darryn admitted that this was not the best room House 1 has presented but do agree that they did like what they were going for overall. Although at first, the living and dining area looked like a magazine cover, after looking more closely there were a few things that were missed. Tom admitted he knew they weren’t winning this week and he was simply grateful they had something to show considering the hiccups they had along the way earlier.

The Block 2022 Week 8 – Rachael & Ryan (House 2)

Scotty and Shelly loved the stone wall – but do the judges agree? Darryn also visited House 2 to give them some tips before the room was finalised to help boost their confidence. Both Rachael and Ryan felt the love and appreciated the confidence boost Darryn offered before the reveals. Do we think this is what House 2 needed to restore their confidence this week?

House 2 had an impressive idea of placing floorboards on their ceiling which was not only a fantastic look but a smarter option than having to paint that entire section. Darren walked in saying ‘drama’ whilst Shaynna was squealing ‘yes’ from her excitement!

Shaynna also added that it was ‘home, personality and warmth in this place.’ Neale was also quick to add ‘Rachael and Ryan, welcome to The Block!’. House 2 nailed their living and dining room, and all three judges agreed it was exceptional.

Their choice of the elegant couch really complimented the views Gisborne has to offer. Neale agreed that it was the best sofa on The Block. Shaynna could not stop screaming ‘Phenomenal, phenomenal, phenomenal’ while she enjoyed laying down on the couches.

The judges now understood why the kitchen in last week’s reveal was not as dramatic, House 2 was focusing on a much more lux living that compliments the subtle kitchen. Great work this week to house 2, a well-deserved win!

The Block 2022 Week 8 – Ankur & Sharon (House 3)

Ankur and Sharon had to be careful to ensure they had time and the money to enable them to complete the room this week. So, did the judges notice?

Shaynna walked in speaking of how impressive the ceiling was. Sadly, everything after the ceiling was downhill in Shaynna’s opinion. We can agree with the judges that the dining room does give visitors incredible views.

Although the team had the same sofa as House 2, the vision was very different and didn’t give the judges the same feel. Neale added that he felt as though he was in a hotel lobby.

The choice of the art TV wasn’t the best decision, as the colour did not compliment the room. Overall, the judges did agree that there were some inspiring pieces however the relationship between these elements did not gel well. Better luck next time team!

The Block 2022 Week 8 – Dylan & Jenny (House 4)

Dylan and Jenny from House 4 had an incredible week this week. They really took on all the advice given to them from the previous room reveals.

Shaynna instantly noticed the space automation which had been installed which was a fantastic choice by House 4 allowing so much convenience. Neale was blown away and added that there was quite a bit to take in, while Darryn agreed ‘that’s why I had to take a step back.’

Overall, even though the judges had a few positive things to say about the living and dining reveal the majority of the feedback wasn’t great. All three judges did agree that the room was much more classic than expected. Neale added that the room didn’t feel very luxurious and that the presentation was something very cookie-cutter and looked as though it was a small cottage.

While the room was presented beautifully, it didn’t connect with the contemporary feel they were looking for. Although there will be buyers who will like the look, these clients may not be up for spending 4 million dollars. Jenny couldn’t understand what the judges were asking from them as in most weeks they were told their rooms were not country enough and now this week the feedback was that it was too country. Both Dylan and Jenny are a little confused as to what is expected from them. We hope House 4 can blow all three judges away next week.

The Block 2022 Week 8 – Omar & Oz (House 5)

Omar and Oz from House 5 had a jaw-dropping week this week. Foreman Dan had advised them earlier in the week that they needed to bring the TV down to eye level from the couch and to remove the fireplace. Oz laughed saying ‘look at this guy,’ as he couldn’t believe how easily Dan had suggested removing something both Oz and Omar loved.

Omar added never take advice from someone who has been on the block twice and never won. The boys including Dan had a giggle from the comments made, however, this was not the only issue found by the judges.  Neale walked in laughing and smiling whilst Shaynna exclaimed ‘there’s a baby grand piano!’ which she loved, but was concerned about how they managed to purchase such an expensive item that generally retails for about $36,000 – this was a concern for the judges and raised some questions.

Unfortunately for the boys, Scotty was not impressed with their piano purchase considering the price. He explained to the boys that even if they had won this week they would be disqualified from this week’s winnings, as well as have 3 points taken off from their overall points given by the judges.

The boys disagreed with the harsh judgment from Scotty as they had an agreed price of $7,000 for the grand piano as it was a 14-year-old piano, which meant the boys purchased the piano for less than 50% of the retail price. House 5 was disappointed with the outcome considering the hard work they put in this week. Hopefully better luck next week team!
