The Block 2022 Week 12 – Work From Home Room Reveal
We’re nearly coming to the end of The Block and with no hesitation yet again another week full of drama. This week we had two surprise guest judges as Shaynna and Neale tested positive for covid. Our old Block contestants and winners Alisa and Lysandra replaced them instead. This week’s Work From Home reveal was a stressful week for The Blockheads. For some more than others. One house was told there were delays from The Block and they were not going to finish their space. Did they get through despite the hiccups? We have a recap of everything you need to know!
The Block 2022 Week 12 – Tom and Sarah-Jane (House 1)
This week Tom and Sarah-Jane had a lot to argue about. Having so much work to do with not so much money had stressed them out more than usual. House 1 decided to have their space offering not only a Work From Home room but also an additional lounge area, almost adding a second home within a home in the shed. Did this win the judges’ hearts?
Alisa walked in and was the first to comment ‘it’s cosy, but what’s that big black box in the room?’ Darren explained it was the wine storage system they had won a few weeks back. Alisa didn’t agree with it being smack bang in the middle of the living area, but Tom and Sarah-Jane had no option but to place it elsewhere. Overall, the judges didn’t completely love the lounge area.
Walking to the second level of the shed and seeing a dedicated office area, which included skylights as well as a kitchen, blew their minds away. Alisa was stoked and commented numerous times how beautifully presented this space was, also adding that this area is ‘priceless real estate.’ She believes this room alone will allow House 1 to win The Block.
Overall, House 1 did a marvellous job planning and presenting its space. A lot of thought and detail within functionality was taken onboard. With great attention to detail, House 1 won this week’s Work From Home reveal. Well done to House 1 yet again for creating an outstanding space.
The Block 2022 Week 12 – Rachael & Ryan (House 2)
Rachael was less stressed and felt much more confident with her project this week. Did their hard work impress our surprise judges? Both the twins walked in screaming ‘wow’ repeatedly. The choice of wallpaper was superb, they said. It was a big tick from the twins until they saw the fireplace. Although they love the idea of having one, the choice of style was not the best in their opinion, all three judges agreed that it looked too harsh in this space.
Darren noticed the view instantly and commented that the wine zone was situated perfectly with the stunning view to Gisborne to watch while enjoying a glass of wine. He also added the choice of brick tiles on the wall was a great idea from House 2.
Overall positive feedback from all three judges, however not having a sink available but a bench made no sense. Adding to that having another living area and removing the idea of creating a workspace considering a lot now work from home the judges weren’t sure if it was the best idea to do that. Lucky for House 2, having 5 bedrooms indicated they could turn one into a study. In conclusion, aesthetically the space was presented well.
The Block 2022 Week 12 – Ankur & Sharon (House 3)
Ankur and Sharon were super excited about this week’s reveal. Sharon was even more excited when her fireplace installation was approved. House 3 wanted to keep their space simple this week. What did the judges think?
Alisa walked in confusingly asking ‘what is that,’ she couldn’t digest the choice of the desk looking like a kitchen bench. All three judges were extremely confused. They instantly concluded the room made no sense. It’s not functional and very cold, the judges added. A very unusual choice. There were no power points available near the desk which they believed was an epic failure. The way the room was designed it was also impossible to place one later. Alisa and Lysandra both agreed that ‘this whole area is not functional,’ and did not agree with Ankur and Sharon’s ideas.
On the bright side, the fireplace was beautiful however Darren disliked where it was placed and believed it should have been situated in the opposite corner of the room allowing access to face the view while enjoying the fireplace.
Unfortunately for House 3 judges all agreed that they were near the end of The Block and these errors were not acceptable. Ankur and Sharon were disappointed as they think it was unfair due to not having the money to do what they wanted to, it makes things much more difficult for them. Hopefully, they will turn around next week and work their magic, better luck next week team.
The Block 2022 Week 12 – Dylan & Jenny (House 4)
This week Dylan and Jenny both agreed it was scary and hectic. They were not impressed with Omar and Oz placing a tennis court right in front of their living room area. Houses 4 and 5 were displeased with one another. Omar and Oz didn’t like Jenny’s approach and screamed ‘how can you afford this?’ They found it unfair they were getting questioned by another contestant.
Although the uncertainties House 4 had, they finalised their space. The judges loved what they were trying to create in this space however a bar that didn’t look like a bar made the judges wonder if they had the right idea. Darren advised that the bar space could be more useful as a coffee station. He believes their space could have been more blown up as they had the space to do so. Unluckily, the judges also noticed the crack in the ceiling.
Overall, the judges agreed that this room wasn’t enough to sell their house. The space presented was nice but not great as it looked undercooked. Better luck next time House 4.
The Block 2022 Week 12 – Omar & Oz (House 5)
This week on The Block, despite Oz’s mentality of “it is what it is,” it really was what it was. Unfortunately for the boys, The Block had revealed some bad news that their shed couldn’t be finalised for them, meaning they were going to have an unfinished room presented on Sunday. The boys, although feeling down about the news, kept going and did their best. Additionally, The Block allowed Omar and Oz’s brothers to help them paint all their defects in other rooms, however, House 5 stayed humble and rejected the offer explaining they had to play fair, and it wouldn’t be fair on the other contestants despite their troubles finalising their space which was completely out of their hands. This was a bigger issue for House 5 more so than Jenny having a go at them.
The boys got to see their families as did the rest of the contestants last week which gave them the courage to continue. Although by Friday their roof was also leaking, they still completed what they could. What did the judges think of their efforts?
The twins walked in baffled as to why the plaster and flooring were not completed but Darren defended House 5 immediately as to why their plaster was unset. Right after Darren’s defence, the twins were both in hysterics at the choice of artwork. Darren added that the layout of the fireplace, TV zone and bar area was phenomenal. The desk however he believed was too big and advised ditching the cabinet under the desk and turning it into two desks instead. Layout wise Darren believed House 1s effort was better as they added a powder room and House 5 did not, the twins disagreed and argued that Omar and Oz’s space was nicer. The twins also adored the cabinetry on the wall and added the entire space was very masculine and sexy. Darren agreed that this room was the key selling point.
Although House 5 didn’t win this week from the judges’ comments we can agree they were very close. Better luck next week, boys.
