THE PROBLEM
The customer backed onto a main road and had major noise issues, they also had dated windows that needed updating.
OUR SOLUTION
We recommended White uPVC double glazed windows. The uPVC double glazed windows will really help with noise issues and the uPVC frames will not only look the part but will also be maintenance free.
PRODUCT RECOMMENDED
White uPVC windows and sliding doors, each window was a different style chosen to ensure the best ventilation for that particular area and window size. Key locked multi point locking hardware to all windows to help enhance security. We also specified 6.38 Laminated glass to go on the external panel to combat noise issues and an internal Low E glass to further help with temperature control.
SPECS OF THE PRODUCT
The IGU (insulated glass unit) used, is made up of a 4mm pane with a 16mm argon gas filled gap and 6.38 laminated pane on the outside.
Using our customised uPVC double glazed windows with low E we can achieve a great u-value of 1.7. The u-value is the amount of heat transferred through a material. The lower the u-value, the slower the rate of heat flow and the better the insulating quality (therefore the lower the u-value the better!). To give you a rough idea of how great that result is, a standard aluminium single pane window generally sits around the u-value of 7 (ouch!).
The solar heat gain coefficient or SHGC is also nice and low at 0.32. This is the percentage of heat gained from both direct sunlight and absorbed heat. Again, the smaller the number, the greater the ability to reduce solar heat gain.
