Top ways to increase your home’s security

The security of your home is a top priority. Whether you live in an inner city area, or a rural town, the risk of burglary and break-ins is one that will unfortunately always exist. There are a number of ways to improve the security of your home, protecting your loved ones and important sentimental items. Thermotek Windows & Doors offer high quality double glazing products, to help you feel safe and secure everyday! We’ve put together a list of essential items to keep your home safe, and give you much welcome peace of mind.

Read on for some ideas on how to best improve the security of your home!

Double Glazed Windows

It has been documented that burglars seek out, and much prefer homes with single glazing. Older, single paned glass windows are no problems for intruders, and could make your home a target without you even knowing.

When it comes to uPVC double glazed windows, the security benefits are often overshadowed by their energy efficiency, durability and sustainability benefits. However, the security of having uPVC double glazed windows is one of its main advantages. By adding a second, often stronger, pane of glass, burglars are faced with quite the task; not only does it take longer, it also creates a lot more noise and attracts more attention. These are deterrents for potential intruders, who are hoping to keep a low profile.

uPVC frames are an added layer of security, as they cannot be opened from the outside due to it’s seal. uPVC also doesn’t warp or bend over time, removing the risk of space where the window can be pried open. In older, traditional frames the risk of warping is higher, and creates more opportunity for intruders.

Smart Doorbells

Installing a doorbell may not seem like an obvious deterrent; we know the burglar isn’t going to ring, and ask nicely to be let inside. However, it is common for intruders to test if anyone is home before attempting a break-in, and they often do this by ringing the doorbell. The sale of smart doorbells is booming, and not only because they provide convenience and act as a fun, modern addition to your home. Many people are investing in smart doorbells because of their security features, such as being able to see anyone who rings your doorbell via an app on your phone, no matter if you’re home or not. It is also common for these smart doorbells to have motion sensors, and to capture video of anyone who approaches your door, even if they don’t ring the bell. If a potential intruder notices your smart doorbell, it could be enough to deter them.

CCTV Cameras

If a burglar does break-in, you need to have a back-up plan. Sometimes having the best technology, and preventative measures, isn’t enough, and CCTV cameras are both to prevent intruders and also record them if they do get in. Having cameras isn’t a modern idea; many homes and offices use cameras for security. The downfall of many CCTV cameras, however, is lost footage. This is why we recommend upgrading to a camera that uploads footage via the internet to a cloud storage system, rather than to the camera itself.

When investing in CCTV cameras, be sure they have a storage system that will keep you safe in the unfortunate case of a break-in!

Alarm System

Installing an alarm system in your home is an effective way to protect your home, if a burglar manages to get inside. A good home security system monitors your doors and entries, looks for motion inside your home, can sound an alarm and notify authorities.

Modern alarm systems have greatly improved on their older counterparts. In the past, home owners had to rely on a single alarm controlled box, with potential installation and monthly fees for upkeep. Modern, wireless alarm systems keep you safe while sending you notifications directly to your phone if anything is detected. You can also often control the alarms from your phone, and connect the system to Google Home, Alexa etc.

Double glazing windows provide countless benefits. Home security is one of the many major benefits that uPVC double glazing windows and doors provide your home or office. Double glazing also lowers your energy bills, reduces noise pollution and provides temperature control. Double glazing is a sustainable, energy efficient investment that will last for years.

Australian Made, Energy Efficient Double Glazing

At Thermotek, we manufacture our windows in Australia, for Australian’s. All our products are manufactured in Melbourne, allowing us to offer competitive prices on high quality double glazing products.

International manufactures often supply products that cannot withstand Australian UV rays. While those double glazing windows best suit the climates in Europe, in Australia our harsh climate calls for tougher, specialised products that last. Combined with uPVC framing, Thermotek’s products will provide Australian consumers with years of benefits; from energy efficiency to home security.

When you upgrade your windowswith Thermotek, you are not only investing in your home and your future, but also your well being. Contact Thermotek Windows & Doors today to find out more about how double glazing can keep you and your loved ones safe!
